Counselling itself is a very important process rightly commenced after the NEET-PG 2022 results are declared. On the basis of college status, different counselling authorities have been assigned to carry out the counselling process to fill the seats of Medical Colleges. 

MCC i.e., Medical Counselling Committee is the sole authority to conduct All India Counselling for the colleges of different stature in various quotas for Postgraduate seats. MCC conducts PG Counselling in online mode only. 

From 2021 onwards, all the rounds will be carried out by the MCC itself. From the first Round to the stray round vacancy, MCC will conduct the counselling. None of any vacant/unclaimed seats will be reverted to the respective state quota.

The candidates who have successfully qualified in the NEET-PG will be required to participate in the counselling by visiting the official website of MCC at https://mcc.nic.in. MCC has defined the role of Counselling for the following stature of Medical Colleges.

  • 50% All India Quota except J&K
  • 100% Deemed Universities
  • 100% Central Universities
  • 50% ESIC seats
  • 100% AFMC seats
  • 50% in I.P University

Two separate rounds of counselling are being conducted for 50% All India Quota. However, the Mop-up round of counselling is only conducted by MCC for Deemed/Central/ESIC and AFMC Institutes. 

The medical counselling committee is authorized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India to fill the following Medical Seats in NEET PG 2022.

There will be more than 6000 Medical Colleges and 650 Hospitals participating in the NEET PG Counselling 2021. To participate in the NEET PG Counselling 2022, Students must qualify for the NEET-PG Exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations. 

Only NEET PG 2022 qualified students will be able to participate in the NEET PG Counselling 2022 conducted by MCC, New Delhi.

To participate in the All-India Quota for Deemed/Central/ESIC and AFMC Institutes, Candidates are required to register themselves at the official website of MCC. Requisite Registration/Counselling fee needs to be paid along with basic academic details, active E-mail ID for future interaction, choice of specializations, and preferred colleges.

For the remaining 50% of State quota seats, PG Counselling is being carried out by distinct state counselling authorities. PG Counselling conducted by state medical bodies can either be online or offline mode. 

Important dates, registration forms, and other details for state quota seats will be released by the respective state counselling bodies. NEET PG Counselling 2022 for PG seats in Private Universities in the state is also being carried out by the state counselling body for 100% state quota seats.


NEET PG Counselling 2022: Participating Institutions


NEET PG Counselling 2022 is conducted by MCC in All India Quota in various Deemed and Central Universities while for the state quota seats, distinct state counselling authorities carried out separate counselling for the seats in the concerned state in 50% Government colleges and 100% Private Institutions. NEET PG Counselling 2022: Cutoff


The cutoff is the basic eligibility criteria that need to be gained by any PG aspirant who wants to participate in NEET PG Counselling 2022. Only MBBS doctors who have gained the minimum cutoff percentile would be eligible for the NEET PG Counselling 2022. Based on the percentile scored by PG aspirants, the seat allotment will be done.

Last year in 2021, the Medical Council of India with the consultation of MoHFW, Govt. of India has lowered the cutoff by 20th Percentile for candidates belonging to all categories. The decision was implemented in view of the number of vacant seats left after consecutive rounds of NEET-PG Counselling 2021. The revised cutoff percentile along with the old one has been represented below for having a broad idea of its significance.

For AIQ and 100% Deemed/Central Universities and ESIC Institutes 


As mentioned earlier in the article, MCC i.e. Medical Counselling Committee, an Autonomous body approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India is the sole authority that conducts counselling for more than 6102 Medical Colleges and 649 Hospitals including the Deemed ones and ESIC Institutes. on the basis of NEET PG Counselling 2022, 26,168 Doctor of Medicine (MD), 13,649 Master of Surgery (MS), 922 PG Diploma and 1,338 DNB Seats will be filled in more than 6000 colleges and 600 hospitals across India. 

Aspirants are enthusiastic enough to earn MD and MS degrees from the Top Medical Colleges across the country, and for that, they need to participate in the NEET PG Counselling 2022.

  • The DGHS i.e. The Directorate General of Health Sciences has been entrusted on behalf of MCC for conducting the NEET PG Counselling 2022 for admission to 50% seats under AIQ and 100% seats in Deemed/Central Universities and ESIC Institutes.
  • It conducts a single-window counselling round-wise for all mentioned Medical Institutes.
  • There will be only two rounds of counselling for 50% AIQ seats in Government Medical Colleges.
  • There will be an additional mop-up round after the second round of NEET PG Counselling for 100% seats in Deemed and Central Universities.


Counselling Process


NEET PG Counselling 2022 is a full-fledged sequence of events that is going to take place after the NEET PG 2022 exam. The entire process needs to be attempted for admission to the Top Medical Colleges across the country and to acquire MD/MS degrees for having a radiant career in the field of medicine. Candidates are advised to be ascertained of the entire counselling process mentioned below.



NEET PG Counselling Registration 2022:

  • Candidates need to register themselves at the official portal of MCC i.e. https://mcc.nic.in
  • Enter basic details like Name, DOB, Roll Number, NEET PG 2022 Application form number, and relevant details.
  • Login Credentials for NEET PG Counselling will be generated.
  • After login, enter personal details like parent details, contact details, and category.
  • Enter NEET PG 2022 details such as application number and Roll number.


NEET PG Counselling Registration Fee 2022:

  • Candidates need to pay the Registration fee according to the category that they hold. The registration fee of NEET PG Counselling 2022 is non-refundable.
  • Candidates need to pay a security deposit as per their category requirements. Security deposit is refundable however in certain cases, deposits can be forfeited.
  • The registration fee for NEET PG Counselling 2022 can only be paid via online mode. Candidates can pay registration fees through Debit/Credit cards and Internet Banking.

Note: For participating in the counselling for 100% Deemed University seats, the candidates need to pay Rs. 5000 irrespective of caste, religion, and category.

NEET PG Counselling Choice filling and Locking 2022:


Choice filling and Locking lead to the final preferred choice of colleges and to attempt this course of Action, Candidates need to visit the MCC portal.

  • Login using the credentials i.e., Stream (Medical/Dental), Roll Number, and Password.
  • Candidates need to fill in choices of Courses and Colleges for seat allotment.
  • The choices filled by PG aspirants need to be locked however if one forgets to lock the choices, it will be locked automatically.
  • Candidates are advised to take a printout of their filled choices for future reference.
  • The same steps are to be followed in the consecutive rounds of Counselling for NEET PG 2022.


NEET PG Counselling 2022: Seat Allotment


Seat allotment is one of the main events in the entire counselling process. After completing the registration process for Round 1 of NEET PG Counselling 2022, DGHS, New Delhi conducts the seat allotment process. 

  • NEET PG Counselling 2022, seat allotment will be done on multiple factors like NEET PG Rank, Choices of Colleges & Courses filled, availability of seats, and reservation criteria.
  • MCC will release the NEET PG 2022, seat allotment letters for shortlisted candidates on the official portal of MCC.
  • The letters contain details of the candidate, secured rank, scored marks, category, allotted college, and the reporting schedule. After having the seat allotment letter, candidates will be required to report to the allotted college.
  • Candidates must report to the allotted college physically for document verification and to confirm their PG seat in the Top Medical College across the country. A required list of documents that need to be carried out while visiting the college is listed below.
  • NEET PG Admit Card
  • NEET PG Score/Rank Card
  • MBBS/BDS Mark Sheet
  • MBBS/BDS Degree Certificate
  • Internship completion certificate
  • MCI issued a Permanent/Provisional Registration Certificate.

NEET PG Counselling 2022: Options after Round 1 of Counselling


MBBS/BDS Candidates participating in round 1 of NEET PG Counselling 2022 will be available with certain options that need to be opted out by the candidates themselves. The following options have been elaborated based on the status of the candidates.

Free Exit:  Free Exit stands for the circumstance when a candidate does not report to the allotted college within the specified time after the seat is obtained in the first round of counselling. Such allotted seats will stand cancelled and this is termed as ‘Free Exit’.

Accept the Seat: A candidate can accept the seat allotted in the first round of NEET PG Counselling 2022 if he/she is satisfied with the allotted seat. Candidates then report to the college and secure their seats by paying the requisite tuition fees.

Upgradation of Seats: A candidate can participate in round 2, if not satisfied with the Seat/College allotted. Candidates can opt for the upgradation but in case the seat is not upgraded during the 2nd round of NEET PG Counselling 2022, then the seat allotted in Round 1 will be retained.


Round 2 of PG Counselling


Round 2 of the NEET PG Counselling 2022 will be the same as Round 1. It is just a sequence of events occurring after the completion of Round 1. Relevant notification will be out on the official portal of MCC. 

If a candidate wants to upgrade Course/College, then it is mandatory to fill fresh choices of courses and colleges. It will be obligatory to be filled by all the candidates, who wish to participate in Round 2 of NEET PG Counselling 2022.


 Eligibility to Participate in Round 2


  • Those candidates who are not allotted any seat in Round 1 of NEET PG Counselling 2022.
  • Those candidates whose allotted seats have got cancelled in Physical Document Verification after Round 1.
  • Those candidates who wish to upgrade his/her seat allotted in Round 1.
  • Those candidates who have chosen to exit and have not participated in Round 1.
  • Candidates are advised to keep in mind that there will be no option of ‘Free Exit’ in Round 2 of NEET PG Counselling 2022.


Mop-Up Round


MCC conducts Mop-up Round which can also be referred to as the final round of PG Counselling but it is only confined to the admission to Deemed/Central Universities and ESIC Institutes. 

If seats remain vacant after the Mop-up round, then the same will be reverted to the respective state government quota as well. NEET PG Counselling 2022 Mop-Up round process has been discussed below.

  • Fresh Registration will be required for those candidates who exited either in Round 1 or Round 2 of NEET PG Counselling 2022 and did not report to the allotted college. Such candidates need to register for the mop-up round conducted by MCC and have to fill fresh choices of courses and colleges.
  • Those candidates who have not secured any seat in either Round 1 or Round 2 need not register again for the mop-up round, but they need to fill fresh choices of courses and colleges in the same.

The final seat allotment of the Mop-Up Round will be published on the official portal of MCC. Candidates just need to keep an eye on https://mcc.nic.in.  for regular updates.


State Quota Seats


Distinct states of the country own its Medical Counselling Authority, which conducts the counselling for NEET PG 2021 for the remaining 50% state quota seats and 100% seats in Private Institutes. NEET PG Counselling for state quota will cover 50% seats in the government colleges of the respective state and 100% seats in the private medical institutes.

  • Candidates need to fill the application form released by the respective State Counselling Authority for state quota admission.
  • Candidates are required to fill in the academic details along with personal information like Name, DOB, NEET PG Roll No., Marks obtained, etc on the official website of the respective state counselling authority.
  • Candidates need to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria for participating in the state quota counselling such as NEET PG Cutoff, Academic qualification, domicile, etc.
  • Candidates will be required to fill fresh choices of courses and colleges and might need to upload relevant documents for PG Counselling for state quota seats.

The state counselling authority will release the NEET PG state merit list of eligible candidates on the basis of choices filled, state rank, reservation criteria, and domicile rules. Eligible candidates will be then able to secure seats in MD, MS, and PG Diploma Courses in the respective state.  


NRI/Foreign Quota 


India has become a destination for Advanced Medical Courses and is widely acclaimed across the globe so, those Indian students who have relatives or family ones residing outside the country and has gained NRI status can certainly opt for changing the category from Indian to NRI to get admission in the Top Deemed and Private Medical Institutes including Govt. Medical colleges too. 

A student can change his/her category from Indian to NRI by providing relevant documents. A number of Medical Institutes in India reserve PG seats for NRIs.

The candidates need to be eligible and must have qualified NEET-PG. Candidates are advised to get in touch with the official portal of MCC for further courses of action.

The following documents need to be provided by any student of Indian Origin to change the Category to NRI.

  • NRI status of the financial supporter issued by the Indian Embassy of the resident country.
  • Certificate of Relationship between the NRI Sponsor and the student authorized by the Competent authority.
  • A duly notarized affidavit from the sponsor that he/she will sponsor the entire course fee of the candidate.
  • NRI Sponsor of the candidate needs to produce a certificate from the Embassy.
  • NEET Scorecard of the candidate.
